Olaus Olsen married Lovise Julie Bek Lorentsdatter Oct. 6th 1881. Together with their daughter Oline Dortea (born 6.6.1881) they emigrated to USA in September 1883. They were heading for La Crosse, Washington. Olaus lived in Washington when his father's probate was held in 1907.

Olaus was born Aug. 25th 1855, according to the church book, along with his twin brother Johan Carl. Ole Jørgen Jacobsen and Dorthea Olsdatter were married 01.01.1848. They were cottagers at Dolstadsjøen, one of many cotters under Dolstad church. As a widower Ole Jørgen married Maren Marie Sørensdatter i 1879. Ole Jørgen Jacobsen (1824-1905) was born at Ner-Bjørnåga, parents: Jacob Olsen and Christiane Isachsdatter. The family moved to Hals in the late 1820's. Dorthea Olsdatter (1824-1872) was born at Tveråga, parents Ole Olsen and Johanna Larsdatter. Ole Jørgen and Dorthea's children are listed in the 1865- census, but the list may not be complete: http://www.rhd.uit.no/folketellinger/ftliste.aspx? ft=1865&knr=1824&kenr=002&bnr=0044&lnr=000 In 1907 (according to the probate) Petter Johan was dead (he had a son Ole in Canada). Jacobine was married to Magnus Arntsen, Mosjøen. Except for Olaus, the rest of the children are not mentioned and probably dead. Additionally two daughters from Ole Jørgen's second marriage: Petra (26 y.o.) in Wisconsin, and Dorthea (21) in Mosjøen. It would be easier to help if your questions were more specific. It is possible to find further information about Olaus' ancestors. I know that Christiane Isachsdatter's ancestors go back to Denmark in the 16th century. I don't know very much about the rest of the families.

Why is his surname Olsen and not Olesen? or Oleson? Is there a record of what happened to Olaus's twin? What was the name of Ole JArgen's second wife? It would be helpful in locating additional family in America, maybe they have also done research. I understand that Ole JArgen built the pipe organ at the Dolstad Kirke, and that Olaus also helped. Thank you Dan

Olsen may have happened as a contraction of OleSen a very long time ago. I have never seen anyone write "Olesen". The written language was much closer to Danish than today. Olson may also have been used in writing, but is nowadays more common in Swedish. Anyway, none of these comes close to the local pronunciation of names! Johan Carl died 4 months old. Ole Jørgens second wife is mentioned above (".... Ole Jørgen married Maren Marie Sørensdatter i 1879.") Dolstad kirke (church) had its first organ built i 1846 by Peter Adolph Albrechtsen, an organ builder, originally from Denmark. Ole Jørgen may have helped, who can tell? Olaus was not born yet. This organ was replaced in 1920.
